LIVE PERFORMANCE: Naoki Fuku - Studies of te Human Mind

As part of our opening weekend, SinArts Gallery will host a new performance by Naoki Fuku.

“This work stems from "the study of human mind" series, the series is about sincerely exposing and sharing moments of feelings, thoughts through my paintings and performances. The performance is to present who I am, and really who we are by using my body. After locating myself semi naked in the centre of a circle surrounded by the spectators, I then placed a strip of scotch tape one by one on the floor, writing down words onto each. Firstly positive words with my right hand (i.e. love, dream, calm, empathy) and then attached the words onto my body. Once I had covered my body with positive words I then switched to my left hand and continued the process with negative words (i.e, hate, apathy, hypocrite, fake). These eventually covered over the positive tape.
As I apply the negative words I feel myself became more selfish. In due course I feel that the spectator's eyes are no longer present, I'm self-absorbed, putting all the negatives thoughts/tape on my body really tight”
